Watching 24 last week I saw one of the bad guys enter a building using his finger as a key. How wonderful I thought, imagine if this were real life and not just on the telly — the keyless lock is going to be big in the not too distant future I told myself.

I hoped online and did a quick search, apparently I am not very up with the latest technology because such a thing already exists — the future is already here, and they are actually not all that expensive, awesome.

I can think of a bazillion benefits to the keyless lock, for one you aren’t going to lose your finger any time soon and even when you roll home drunk at 3am you’ll be able to get in your house with ease — who hasn’t spent an hour on the door step tying to get the blasted key to go in the lock after one too many wee drinkies?

But I worry that it would increase violent crime. If someone really wants to get into your house they will, at the moment that might mean they steal your purse — which is scary enough, but say you have a keyless lock and only your finger print will get them in, how far would they go to get it? Dragging you and forcing you to open it? Chopping your finger off even? Eeep.
